About my work
For me painting in the wilderness is an opportunity to hang out with the best teacher of all. Nature.
I also get to practice my other passion, which is to spend time in the woods and co-exist in harmony with nature. That is what Bushcraft means to me.
When I was a kid, I would disappear into the bush for days on end on summer holidays. My father encouraged me to do so and I loved and respected him for allowing me to do it. I have always been deeply in awe of the outdoors and there is nothing I enjoy more, than to spend nights on a row just hanging out and painting in the wilderness. I feel at home in it. Always have.
I believe that by observing and painting the natural world around me, I will gain a deeper connection and understanding of it, making me a better painter and outdoorsman. In my opinion that further enriches my studio work and life in general.
I also enjoy the fact that there is less navel gazing in this form of art making. Its pure, direct and simple. I like that about it.
Painting in general, is one of the best ways I have found to express myself and to explore the world within and around us.
Influenced by thoughts and observations, I create images that inspire me. Images that will enrich my life by provoking questions & self reflection, in other words, paintings that aims to elevate the spirit.
By focusing in a particular theme and landscapes combined with dramatic skies to set a tone or mood, I try to deliver a symbolic message in each work.
A message that embodies and symbolizes a particular human value, a feeling or spirit; to enhance, illuminate and to better understand, what is best or worse in them.
